Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 28, 2026
Last updated: May 28, 2026
This policy explains what information mikekingsella.com ("this site," "we," "I") collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. It's written to be readable rather than exhaustive. If something here is unclear, contact mkingsella@upforgrowth.org.
What this site collects
When you subscribe to Homefront (the newsletter):
- Your email address (required).
- Optionally, your first name, last name, company, and title, if you provide them.
- Your subscription preferences and sending frequency.
- A record of how you signed up (for example, which page the form was on).
When you submit a media or speaking inquiry:
- Your name, email address, and the details you type into the inquiry form.
- Which form you used (media or speaking) and the page you submitted from.
When you respond to a subscriber survey, if offered:
- Your feedback and any improvement suggestions you choose to share.
Automatically, when you interact with the site or emails:
- Your IP address, used to prevent spam and abuse of the signup and inquiry forms.
- Basic email engagement data — whether a Homefront email was opened and whether links in it were clicked. This is handled by our email provider (see below) and is used to understand whether the newsletter is reaching and resonating with readers.
- Standard server logs (such as request times and error records) generated by hosting infrastructure.
This site does not knowingly collect payment information, government identifiers, or other sensitive categories of personal data.
How the information is used
- To send you the Homefront newsletter and a welcome email after you sign up.
- To respond to media and speaking inquiries you submit.
- To let you update your preferences or unsubscribe.
- To keep the site secure and prevent automated abuse of the forms.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the newsletter performs.
The site does not sell your personal information, and does not share it for advertising or rent it to third parties.
Who the information is shared with
Personal data is shared only with the service providers that operate the site and its email, and only so they can perform those functions:
- Mailgun (an email delivery service) — receives subscriber email addresses and names to send the newsletter and welcome emails, and provides the open/click tracking described above.
- Slack — receives notifications when someone signs up or submits an inquiry. These notifications can include the email address, name, and inquiry details you provided, and are visible only to the site operator.
- Cloud hosting and database providers — store subscriber records and operate the servers the site runs on.
These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. Information may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect against fraud or abuse.
Where data is stored and transferred
Data is stored on infrastructure operated by the providers above, which may be located in the United States. If you are accessing the site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your location.
How long data is kept
- Subscriber records are kept for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your record is marked as unsubscribed and retained so that we don't accidentally re-add you; you can request full deletion at any time.
- Inquiry submissions are retained in operator notifications and logs for a reasonable period to follow up and keep records.
- Server and interaction logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, which removes you from future sends.
- Update your details — your name, company, frequency, and topic preferences — through the subscription preferences page.
- Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information by emailing mkingsella@upforgrowth.org. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights, including the right to obtain a copy of your data, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We will honor valid requests as required by applicable law.
If a Homefront email to you bounces permanently or you report it as spam, your address is automatically unsubscribed.
Cookies and tracking
The website itself does not use third-party advertising cookies or sell behavioral data. Newsletter emails contain standard open- and click-tracking provided through Mailgun.
Children
This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
